I became a font nut 20+ years ago when I bought a Mac and fell in love with desktop publishing. As with everything, typefaces have all kinds of rules to the design, and reasons for these rules. I can't stress enough how well Ilene Strizver explains it all. I can't recap this book in this review, there's just too much info. BUT, if you go into it even just wanting to get the basics, I guarantee you will get overly-interested in the mechanics of typography (x height and descenders and kerning and leading and serifs and what to use when and best design practices, etc). For those folks who want to know the story behind type so their projects and crafts and other letter-based efforts start looking WAY above the stuff most people produce (and never try to know), this tome is more than enough. Wow, what an amazing amount of info... I'm going to go back through this a couple more time to ingest it all. To me, typefaces are great artwork. No more having documents look like they were done on a typewriter, ever!

Well designed, great examples, excellent lesson, great exercises. The reader MUST read the small print--some of the examples are what NOT to do, but to people who just gloss over the material, they may not catch the examples demonstrating design flaws, or note there are things not to do. Would love to see a version of this book tied to a a book on how to use Indesign so one would get a how to on both design and use of the tools.

Purchased for a college Typography course. Rather dry course but the text book is educational and presents itself in an interesting way.

I'm so glad I purchased this book on amazon and not at my bookstore. I saved $40 and the book was practically new. I love the book and would ob paid more I'm just on the budget of a student right now.

Rob Bell's "Love Wins" is truly a life changing book for anyone willing to examine their beliefs, christian or not. It is a well organized, concise, enjoyable, uplifting, and well supported set of ideas that were missing from the dialogue about what is the grand scheme of things in the universe. This book is just the opposite. It is a set of unsupported, disjointed, and even contradictory ideas that run on and on and don't do justice to the topic of sexuality in modern culture or as addressed by God in the Bible. The Bible is incredibly loaded with sex positive examples that are ignored or explained away by modern christian leaders, so it's the perfect topic for someone like Rob Bell to tackle. But this book doesn't go far enough in uncovering the truth about our God given sexuality.

It’s always good to read any person’s beliefs and theories when they can back it up with logic and explain their take on things. You may still not agree with them but at least you’ll be exposed to intelligence and rational reasoning if the book is by Rob Bell. I feel set free without having been condemned and God doesn’t seem like this mean old man any longer.

I believe how we deal with the overarching topic of sexuality will be one of the most important topics we address in this generation of the church. Sadly, I think there are too few books that deal with this subject without taking a side in a ridiculous culture war. Bell does a nice job of dealing with the sickness and not the symptoms. This will be required reading for my kids, any man who asks to marry my daughters, and a suggested reading to any girl who says "yes" to my sons.Couldn't recommend it more.

Growing up in the church it was always made clear that sex before marriage is sin. However there seemed to be more energy spent on the "thou shall not" than how God really feels about being intimate with us... I loved the way Rob Bell laid the foundation for what sex's true essence is and just how relatable it is to our spirituality and not cloud it with religion. It made me realize how our culture and world has taken out the depth ness of sexual encounters and limited it to only the physical.. Please read if you're looking for more meat and understanding into your sexuality and spirituality .Thanks for reading! Enjoy !

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book when I first started reading it. At first I thought it was going to be a book encouraging sex. Lately I have been hearing about many sects where casual sex is part of their rituals. As it turn out, the book is about abstinence. To sum it up in one sentence, the same way we worship one God, we should worship one and only one partner. In other words, have sex with only one partner, in the same way as we pray to only one God! The author explains the joys of having one sexual partner by giving real case examples.I really enjoyed reading this book and I felt at home with the author's reasoning. I really recommend reading this book!

Excellent book about relationships, not only with God but your spouse, I am no currently a huge Rob Bell fan, but this was written before he started espousing some of the things he's saying these days. Incredible helpful, informative and page turning reading. I also like very much the way he writes...as if we are in a room talking face to face! A must read for everyone. (Christians too!)

Love this book. Love the audiobook even more (Rob Bell himself dictates). The messages resonate deeply and just make sense; I would highly recommend this to anyone, especially young adults.
